Can Eating Chocolate Cause Headaches?

Welcome to the page that poses
the common question
" Can eating chocolate cause headaches ?"
and, in answering the question, attempts
to provide the best answer as to why, according
to the latest science studies

YES
Manifestly the answer is yes because some people get a headache/migraine after they eat chocolate but note, not all migraine sufferers report that they experience a negative effect from eating chocolate.

Some people have been diagnosed as having an allergy to chocolate, and on giving up eating chocolate the headaches have disappeared.

The tougher question to answer is why? The truth is that research has not found the definitive answer. The scientists think that if chocolate is a trigger to migraine for some people it could be because of chocolate's caffeine and tyramine content, ingredients thought to restrict blood flow.

An animal study presented at the International Headache Society’s 14th International Congress provided evidence that cocoa may be an appropriate dietary supplement for those suffering with migraine headaches. The ingredient is thought to repress inflammatory responses in the brain that are associated with pain. Cocoa is of course an ingredient of chocolate and phenylethylamine, a chemical in cocoa is a mood and memory enhancer and reliever of stress and may have an effect on relieving headaches. There is not, however, enough cocoa in chocolate to believe that, in some, chocolate could prevent or relieve headaches
